I will explain how throttle and pitch curves work together. This is a typical starting point.

Assumptions: Head is setup correctly

Throttle and pitch curves must work together in order for an rc helicopter to work correctly. You have 2 modes to consider and on some radios 3 modes. They are Normal Mode, Idle Up 1 and Idle Up 2.

Throttle Curves: Normal Mode (Yellow Line) then after mid stick (Purple Line)

In normal mode you want to be able to start at (Zero) rpms, and go up to your maximum level of rpms, this is simply so you can land the heli or fly around without doing any 3D.

So your throttle curve will always start at 0% (Zero) at low stick move in a linear fashion up to mid stick 80% and then follow the idle up throttle curve to 100%

I like to set up my heli up in this way so there is no jump in throttle when switching from normal mode to idle up mode.

Pitch Curves: Normal Mode (Green Line) then after mid stick (Red Line)

You want to be able to land your heli in normal mode without going into a great negative pitch, so setting it just below 0 (Zero) deg pitch will aid to keep the heli down until you go past mid stick.

So your curve will start at 46% (which is 4% negative pitch) move up 2% to 48% then at mid stick 50%, from this point on it follows the idle up (Red Line) to 75% and finally 100%.

Throttle Curve: Idle Up (Turquoise Line) then after mid stick (Purple Line)

When in Idle up mode you need maximum throttle at full negative pitch and full positive pitch, and at mid stick where there is no resistance due to 0(zero) pitch you want to back off the throttle so that the motor doesnt over rev.  Position 1 must equal position 5, position 2 must equal position 4 so that an equal speed in both directions is maintained and the aim is to have a constant head speed.

Pitch Curve: Idle Up (Dark Blue) then after mid stick (Red Line)

The pitch curve in idle up mode is simply for the travel of pitch in inverted and normal flight, you need to have equal amount of pitch in both directions, at low stick you should have full negative pitch and in high stick you should have full positive pitch.

Throttle and Pitch Curves Final Word

You should be hovering at just above mid stick in any mode and flicking the switch into idle up mode and back to normal mode should not change the rotor head speed and pitch if your curves are identical to what is shown below.

What ever you set make sure that after mid stick both normal and idle up modes are the same in pitch and throttle.

You may need to mechanically adjust your pitch to give you 0(zero) pitch at mid stick and +11 at full stick and -11 at low stick with the heli in idle up mode (motor disconnected)
